Chapter 135: Care to try again?
The next morning, as sunlight filtered through the curtains, Layla stirred awake, only to find Lucius lying beside her, sleeping peacefully. A soft smile curved her lips as she leaned forward, brushing a tender kiss on his cheek.
But as her gaze shifted downward, she noticed she was wearing a delicate nightdress.
"Did he make me wear that?" she whispered to herself, her cheeks warming at the thought. Her heart fluttered as she realized how considerate Lucius had been, his actions speaking volumes about the care he held for her.
Careful not to disturb him, Layla slipped out of bed and padded quietly to the bathroom. It was the weekend, and she wanted him to rest a little longer. After freshening up, she returned to the room, her damp hair clinging to her shoulders. She paused in the doorway as her eyes met his—Lucius was awake, propped up against the headboard, his blue eyes heavy with fatigue.
"You’re up," she said softly, stepping closer and lowering the towel she’d been using to dry her hair. "What’s wrong? You look exhausted."
Lucius’s gaze followed her every movement, his lips curving slightly as she perched on the edge of the bed. Without a word, she reached out, her fingers brushing gently against his cheek, her touch warm and comforting. For a moment, his eyes closed under her touch, as if drawing strength from her presence.
In the blink of an eye, Lucius reached out, pulling Layla down into his arms. He embraced her tightly, resting his face against her chest, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat soothing him. "You smell so divine," he murmured, his voice low and velvety as his arms wrapped more securely around her, as if he couldn’t bear to let go.
Layla’s heart skipped a beat, and just as she began to respond, Lucius lifted his head. His silver eyes sparkled with warmth as they locked onto hers, and with a soft smile, he leaned in to plant a feather-light kiss on the tip of her nose.
"So," he began, his voice teasing, "what’s the plan for today?"
