Chapter 92: Our common enemy
Orabela threw the vase, and it hit the mirror, breaking it into pieces. She saw her own reflection in the broken mirror, and anger coursed through every vein of hers.
"Bella! Bella! Open the door!" Miriam shouted from outside.
Orabela went to the door and opened it. Her mother walked in, scared for a moment to see the sight of the room. "What have you done? Are you alright?" she asked, checking Orabela’s arms, feet, and hands.
"I’m fine, Mom. I was angry," Orabela said, her eyes turning misty. Dad made Layla the Director of our company. How could he do this? I think both Layla and her mother planned this so that Layla could get into the company. Now that she has entered the company, she will do everything to take over it," Orabela stated, her lips quivering in fear.
"Dear, calm down," Miriam said, caressing her daughter’s arm. "It was necessary to give her a position in the company because we gave nothing to Layla all these years. Severe backlash your father has to face. And after what Seraphina did, everyone is questioning even staying as investors in the company. Layla is married to Lucius, the reason why her presence in the company was important," she explained to Orabela.
"Mom, they both destroyed our lives. You know, Roderick called me earlier. He does not sound good. What if he breaks the engagement again? I won’t be able to live then, Mom," Orabela said, bringing her hand to her hair.
"That won’t happen," Miriam assured her.
"How are you so sure, Mom?" Orabela asked, tears rolled down her cheeks. "I agree I got attracted to Rick when he was dating Layla, but they both had nothing. Layla was unable to give him time while Rick was crazy for me. Now, Layla is his aunt. What if she starts manipulating him? Layla’s mother did the same to Dad. She brought Dad under her grip. If Dad wanted he could have thrown out her a long time ago, but he never did that," she muttered.
Miriam’s heart broke to see this side of her daughter and she hugged her. Patting her back, Miriam said, "I won’t ever let you deprive me of your rights. What belongs to you won’t be given to anyone. I promise."
