Chapter 72: Sylvia Mancini’s return
As Lucius carefully settled Layla onto the mattress, her eyes fluttered open, and she whispered, "I saw someone outside the company earlier. I forgot to tell you."
Lucius paused, thinking she might be rambling in her drunken state. "You must’ve seen an employee," he suggested, trying to dismiss it.
But Layla shook her head slightly. "No. The man was suspicious... and he had a camera too."
Lucius’s brows furrowed at her words, his mind sharpening despite the situation. If she was right, this wasn’t something to take lightly. "My eyes are tired," she murmured, her lids drooping as she slowly drifted off to sleep.
He stayed beside her, gently adjusting the duvet and making sure she was comfortable. Once her breathing steadied and she was fully asleep, Lucius removed her heels and carefully tucked her in. Layla turned onto her side, pulling the duvet closer, sinking deeper into slumber.
Lucius stood up quietly, his mind replaying her words. He pulled his phone from his pocket, intending to alert his men, but hesitated. It was late, and he didn’t want to disturb them if this was nothing.
Deciding to take matters into his own hands, Lucius resolved to investigate the situation himself. He needed to know who that man with the camera was—and why he was hanging around their company.
After switching off the lights, Lucius quietly left the room and drove to the company, his mind focused on the possible threat. Arriving at the office, he made his way directly to the CCTV control room. Though it was late, the building still had a few departments running, with employees working to meet deadlines.
As soon as Lucius entered the control room, the staff immediately stood and greeted him, surprised by his late-night visit.
