Chapter 57: To take your revenge
The next morning, as planned, Lucius and Layla made their way to the company where he held the position of Director.
"Lucius, I think it would be more appropriate to call you ’Sir’ here, given the setting," Layla remarked, glancing around the sleek office.
"I’d much prefer if you called me ’Husband’," Lucius teased with a mischievous grin. Nearby, Roger, his assistant, couldn’t help but smirk at this playful side of his usually composed boss.
"Roger, give us some privacy," Lucius instructed, his voice firm yet calm. Roger swiftly exited the room, leaving them alone.
"Privacy? Why now?" Layla asked, her brows knitting in curiosity as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I thought you’d send me off with Roger to some department for the day."
Lucius stepped closer, his presence immediately commanding the room. Without a word, he pulled a blindfold from his pocket. Layla’s breath caught in her throat as he gently placed it over her eyes, her vision fading into darkness. "Lucius, what are you doing?" she asked, tilting her head slightly, her voice a mix of surprise and anticipation.
"There’s a surprise waiting for you," he murmured, his voice low and steady. His gaze lingered on her lips, the temptation to kiss her strong. But he held back, knowing that once he started, he wouldn’t be able to stop.
"A surprise? Here, at the office?" Layla asked, her tone both intrigued and skeptical.
"Yes," he replied softly, turning her around and guiding her forward with careful hands. He ensured her steps were slow, his hands hovering protectively to make sure she didn’t stumble.
Finally, Lucius came to a stop and gently removed the blindfold from Layla’s eyes. As the fabric slipped away, she blinked, adjusting to the light. The first thing she noticed was the polished desk in front of her. On it, gleaming in gold letters, was a nameplate that read: Layla De Salvo, Personal Assistant.
She turned to Lucius, her eyes wide with shock. Before she could utter a word, he handed her an official ID card. Layla glanced down at the card and was taken aback once more—it bore her name, her photograph, and the company logo embossed at the top.
