Under the vampire Lord's protection

Chapter 231: Un-provoked

After the end of her shift, Edna never headed straight for the maid’s quarters.

Force of habit made her roam the manor’s hallways for when she used to seek Silas out.

The desire to see him lingered but the maid knew that keeping her distance was for the best. Especially when she was in bed with his enemies.

Part of her simply wanted to lay low until the next piece on the board was moved, but another part, a quieter part, couldn’t face him. Whether that was out of guilt or shame... Edna never dwelled long enough on the matter to solve that equation.

Most of all, the biggest piece of her chose to stay away in order to spare herself the pain of witnessing that smarmy harlot kiss up to him.

There was no way she’d handle the repulsive sight of their arms wrapped together without losing her sanity or causing a scene.

Not knowing where they were or what the two of them were up to was a blessing to a certain extent.

But the bliss for that calm night did not last as a strong hand wrapped around the blonde’s arm and yanked her like she was nothing but a ragdoll before slamming her against the nearest wall.

It seemed the tables had turned on her. She who had the habit of cornering people was cornered herself.

The hit she’d sustained to the back of her head knocked the sense out of her for a good moment and when she finally came to, Katherine’s twisted demeanor was the first image invading her brain.

"It’s you! It’s all your fault!" the vampiress hissed so close to her face, the blonde was forced to shut her eyes again.

"What..." Edna tried to articulate but Katherine shook her figure, syphoning the wind out of her lungs once more.
