Under the vampire Lord's protection

Chapter 173: Beyond an innocent face

Utterly intrigued, Silas held his peace and waited for the rest of her explanation to come.

And that happened rather quickly as the fire in Ada’s eyes burned brighter by the second. At the edge of her seat, she was, seemingly just as impatient as he was.

"Us day walkers are to donate blood on a biweekly basis and despite it being ingested by vampires, we still do not fall victims to the symptoms that a bite entails,"

"As you said, your case does not involve a bite and therefore those results are in no way strange," his tone remained the same since the beginning of their exchange.

"It isn’t the bite in and of itself that causes the Mirari, but the toxin you secrete during the act," Ada marked a pause to inhale before continuing, "While its sole purpose is to numb the affected area, it also involves other side effects such as a sense of lightness and euphoria, but the worst adverse reaction is the attachment it yields towards the vampire that commits the act upon the human. Many of us once believed it was magic but we both know it isn’t true and never was,"

"You speak of this to say that the wolf folk bite works similarly to that of a vampire," Silas half asked.

"The exact same way. When introduced in the human body, this toxin that brings change to the psyche and physique starts taking effect immediately. Only as slow as it can be, once the moon rises, the speed at which it acts is immensely expedited until the damage becomes irreversible,"

At those words, Silas finally broke eye contact with the maid, standing up and moving towards the open window through which the beaming moon greeted him.

"Until the damage becomes irreversible," he repeated under his breath, "Does that mean it can be reversed before that?" his diamonds darted back onto her firm features.
