Her stomach rumbled in indignation all the way as her feet grew heavier by the second. Each step required more effort the closer Silas’ chambers drew.
"I’ve come for our feeding session!"
Yes, those would be her exact words once he’d enquired about the reasons that brought her there.
Although, what if he still refused or ordered her away?

That dreaded carved door came into vue a little too soon for Arabella’s taste. So grand, the young woman couldn’t decide whether it was expanding in size, or if it was her own body that shrinked the nearer it became.
All of the courage she’d mustered, all of the words and justifications her and Ada had practiced during dinner, they all evaporated leaving not the slightest trace behind the moment Arabella stopped in front of his door.
A blank canvas her mind had turned as every shard of effort she’d put into keeping her heart and anxiety in check scrambled out the window, hanging her high and dry.
Her fist went up and down so many times without ever knocking, Arabella had already lost count.
