Book 16: Chapter 56
Song Yanluo conveyed her request loud and clear, but every word only served to increasingly bewilder Tang Ye. It eluded him as to why Song Yanluo – or rather, Song Clan – was investigating Wang Sanping’s death. Nevertheless, it was not hard to comprehend why she emphasised the need to keep his demise a secret.
Wang Sanping was comparable to first-rate sect’s patriarchs the Central Plain in terms of virtue, skill and network, which would mean chaos would erupt in the pugilistic world if his death was publicised. That, however, did not answer the question of why Hangzhou was connected. It smelt of someone trying to stir a pot.
As the climate of Hangzhou was beyond Tang Ye’s control, he deemed it necessary to inform Wang Sanping’s friend – Hong Jiu – about the former’s demise in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the situation. Frankly, Hong Jiu’s bizarre encounter was equally puzzling. After all, someone managed to steal all of the treasures from under his nose and Night Fortress’ elites. Plus, considering Hong Jiu and Wang Sanping’s friendship, it only made sense to tell Hong Jiu about his late friend. There was no telling when Ming Feizhen would return, and the matter was urgent, so Tang Ye saw a need to make haste and departed.
Song Yanluo was full of praise for her judgement in character after witnessing Tang Ye drop his current work and hurry off to fulfil her request. She had already evaluated him to be considerably higher than the two second-generation rich boys from earlier. It went without saying that she did not forget to praise herself for her unequalled beauty that subdued even a block of wood. As she rested her chin between her fingers and grinned to herself, lamenting that there was not a single man worthy of her, a true gentleman returned at night.
“Miss, may I ask where that Tang g-, my young master has gone?” Ming Feizhen knew Tang Ye had left since he did not hear his buddy’s movements upon returning to Yan Manor.
He Xiang glared daggers at Ming Feizhen. “Don’t you have any manners? He has gone off to fulfil my mistress’ request. He left as soon as he accepted her request. Learn how to be obedient from him. I cannot believe my mistress would… I couldn’t care less about you.”
Ming Feizhen could not fathom why he was given the cold shoulder and even left to stand there alone. He pondered if his ugliness had reached the point where young girls would be angered just seeing him. He Xiang’s reaction suggested that she only refrained from cursing due to her upbringing galvanising her to speak without profanity first. Otherwise, she would have started off with profanity. At this point, he wanted a mirror as much as he praised Tang Ye’s elite performance.
Good boy, taking the initiative. Get into her good graces so that we can use her. But he doesn’t even know my plan, so how did he get the job done based off intuition alone? Tang Ye can’t possibly have the whole picture. I need to clarify things with Song Yanluo.
With time on his hands and no desire to waste time, Ming Feizhen knocked on Song Yanluo’s door. He would not have dared to knock on her door prior to being dragged into the courtroom on account of being arrested for molestation or something of that nature. Since Yan Buer recognised him, though, there was no longer any need to fuss over it. That said, he was a little too daring. Instead of a polite knock, he thumped on her door as he yelled, “Miss, Miss, it’s me. I need to talk. Can you open up? I can slip sheets of paper inside if you prefer? Miss? Miss? Are you there?”
