While they looked eye to eye, the stifled air seemed to experience another faint sliver of warmth.
Moments after that, he silently lowered his gaze. His dim eyes looked out of the window, and when Xi Xiaye followed his gaze, he realized that the night sky outside was a little gloomy. Over the vast and still horizon hung a very dull moon.
Xi Xiaye waited for a long while, but he did not say anything. She was stunned for a moment. Then, she looked up and fixed her eyes on him. After a while, he looked at her again and said in a low voice, “What should I do then?”
When she heard that, the pain from the bottom of her heart was even more intense. She sat down close to him and put an arm over him.
Mu Yuchen paused but did not reject her as he laid down with his head on her thigh. “I’ll be fine after a while. Grandmother used to love me the most. A lot of my thoughts from over the years were influenced by her. She’s not just a grandmother to me.” His tone sounded very gloomy and wrought with sadness.
“Grandmother was really good to me. Apart from Grandpa, she’s the second elder who cared the most about me. I’m shakened and saddened by her sudden departure. Perhaps this is just the will of Heaven. Maybe she was rushing to find an answer too, so she went to look for Aunt. Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. You look tired. Just get a good night’s sleep. All will be better when you wake up.”
Mu Yuchen did not answer after that and just silently shut his eyes.
Xi Xiaye supported him up with all her might and let him sleep comfortably in her arms as she pulled a thin blanket from the side to cover him with.
