Chapter 38: Level Up and Let Go
In front of Corven was nothing but empty air, his rapier slicing through the space where the shadow had just been. It vanished without a sound.
"What was that? An illusion from the drink? A test?" Corven muttered, still gripping the weapon tightly, eyes scanning the now-settled room.
He glanced at the blade. "As for this... guess I’ll keep it. Feels like a waste of blood to just throw it away." He walked over and leaned the rapier carefully against the nearest wall.
"You can create bone weapons?" Rose’s voice echoed from across the room. She was already walking along the far side, her expression curious.
"Yeah, I got it after we won the bets," Corven replied casually.
Rose’s ears perked up slightly, and a grin tugged at her lips. "It won’t be too much to ask for my own weapon, right?" she asked, her index fingers tapping together in a teasing gesture.
"You act like a light switch sometimes." He couldn’t help but laugh.
"Isn’t it more fun that way?" Rose shot back without missing a beat.
"Definitely." Corven chuckled again, stretching his arms overhead. His body had already begun healing, the residual aches and impact fading slowly.
"What weapon—" He started to ask but stopped. The words cut off mid-sentence as his energy dipped and the adrenaline from the fight drained all at once.
