Chapter Thirty-Eight – Rebirth
Valkyrie chuckled, gaining Cade’s attention.
He pointed at her. "You should keep the princess in check. You belong to me and I could kill you when I like."
Laurel frowned. Was he transferring aggression from her to Valkyrie? She responded on Valkyrie’s behalf. "We’re all under the Alpha’s command, We won’t be stupid."
Cade scoffed before walking away. When he was gone, Laurel let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding since she began speaking with him. That had gone smoothly.
"You managed to advert that one." Valkyrie exhaled. "It will be best if it doesn’t happen again though."
Laurel nodded. "I’d do my best. Hopefully, the guards won’t..." she trailed off when she was hugged from behind her. She turned to see the teenage girl.
Her dress was wet. "D-Did you wet yourself?"
The girl looked up, her face, wetter than her dress. "T-Thank you, Princess. I-I thought I’d die. T-Thank you."
The corner of Laurel’s lips rose. "Hmm. I’m glad I could do something for you. You’re very welcome."
For once, there was someone who felt gratitude towards her. She helped someone and felt good about it. She felt like a Princess and not just in title.
The other maids began trooping out of their rooms. "You got really lucky, Lisa. You’re always lucky." one said.
