Chapter 143
I stood in front of the mirror, admiring myself. Millie was right, eyes will pop when they see me looking like this.
I may look like a slut, but I didn’t care. My life was taking a turn and I was happy about it. Besides, it was all in the mind, if you believe that wearing something to show off your perfect figure is slutty, then it is. But if you believe it’s just a cloth complimenting nature’s gift to you, then that’s exactly what it was.
I like to think I’m a fan of the latter, even though I don’t quite feel comfortable with others thinking of the former. After all, nobody likes to be called a slut, no matter how high or different they think of themselves.
A car honked outside.
Lanke was here. I took one last look at my face, the tone and cosmetics Millie had packed for me were perfect. I almost couldn’t recognize myself. I latched my coat, grabbed my coat and headed downstairs.
The Blakes were having dinner when I came down. They glared at me as I made for the door, Mira was cutting her pork more fiercely as if she was quarrelling with the meat.
"Sofia dear," Alicia called, just as I was about to open the door. "I know your mom was a slut and of course she’s a part of you, just don’t make the same mistakes she did."
I had no idea what she was talking about. My mom wasn’t a slut. And before I could point that out, she added, "Don’t get pregnant, okay?"
Her girls burst into laughter. And that was when I realized that she was talking about the cover story. According to the blasted thing, I was a mistake. A mistake made by a slut who got herself pregnant for Mr Francis Blake. And of course, that was the story her girls knew.
The car honked again, huffing at them, I left. A black car was waiting for me at the foot of the stairs, carefully I made my way down the stone stairs in my high heels with silvery metallic finish.
At the foot of the stairs, Lanke had exited from the car and was standing by the door. He looked smart in his white and black uniform.
"Good evening Sir" I greeted.
