"You… you made the Dark Turtle Shield acknowledge you?" It was painfully obvious to Lan Moqian that the shield was not behaving the way it had been described during the auction.
"Yes, just barely. These divine weapons happen to be quite compatible with my life energy, or maybe I should say they're hungry for life energy. I simply poured life energy into them until they accepted me."
A trace of bitterness appeared on Lan Moqian's face. Was having high-level life energy really that valuable?

And now even the Dark Turtle Shield, an artifact the Ancestral Court had held for more than a millennium without success, had chosen him. The Heavy Water divine sword, though impressive, could only be suppressed by the shield. Left with only one weapon, Lan Moqian hadn't even forced Tang San to use other abilities. With the shield's defense, plus the Ancestral Tree's life energy augmentation, the outcome of this battle had been decided from the start. And that wasn't even mentioning the "disgusting" holy energy that kept pressing her.

With both of them defeated, their next round in the losers' bracket guaranteed one of them would be eliminated. What had once seemed like the best-case scenario had now become the worst.
As Tang San descended onto the common platform and walked toward his own pavilion, he passed by Xu An'yu's pavilion.
"Brother Jin, name your price for the Holy Dragon Spear. Not now, after the tournament ends," Xu An'yu said as he stepped down from his seat. It was his turn to fight.
Tang San saw the burning eagerness in his eyes and gave a wry smile. "I truly can't bear to part with it anymore. When it was still just the Radiant Dragon Spear, it was one thing. But now, after evolving in my hands, it feels like my own child. I'm really too attached."
Xu An'yu sighed. "I figured as much. Haaah… Fate truly plays games with us. Still, after this tournament ends, I hope you'll come visit Crystal City. I'd love to learn more about this holy energy from you. I have a feeling that it may be the key to my ascension to Emperorhood. Specifically, I think it might be the key to having my bloodline evolve as well."
"Of course." Tang San nodded with a smile.
Xu An'yu added, "If I win today, we'll face each other tomorrow. But your tactics today won't work on me—I've got Light Sprites, so stamina's not a concern. And your holy attribute? It might just work in my favor."
"I know. This set wasn't meant for you," Tang San replied with a grin.
"A set? The Amethystine Coin Set?" Xu An'yu said with a pained chuckle.
After all these matches, this seemingly weakest Blue Gold Tree patriarch had yet to be defeated. Anyone who still underestimated him now had to be a fool. Xu An'yu clearly knew by now: Jin Miaolin was far more dangerous than he appeared.

Since Xu An'yu had kindly reminded him that the holy energy might empower rather than suppress him, Tang San decided to return the favor and give him a warning.
"Third match: Xu An'yu versus Jiang Chenchou. Ascend and prepare for battle," came the voice of the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor.
Xu An'yu's eyes lit up. He looked at Tang San and said, "Alright. Tomorrow, I look forward to getting some pointers from you, Brother Jin."
Clearly, he was confident that no matter what Tang San brought forth, he would still prevail.
On the other side, Jiang Chenchou was already flying into the sky.
Xu An'yu followed, rising quickly into the air.
Tang San resumed his walk back to his lounge. As he passed Mei Gongzi's rest area, he peeked in—only to find her staring back at him.
Tang San smiled. Mei Gongzi nodded slightly. "Congratulations."
He replied with a grin, "No need to rush. Wait till I beat Xu An'yu tomorrow, then you can congratulate me. Then it'll be you and me, fighting for the first slot in the top three."
After eating the Blue Gold Fruit, Mei Gongzi had recovered from her bloodline ignition; after all, she hadn't done it for long. Now, with the surging life energy within her, her cultivation even showed signs of improving slightly. Her state was better than ever. And her irritation toward this man… had lessened a bit.
"Five thousand amethystine coins. I'll pay you back," she said seriously.
Tang San chuckled, "If you end up marrying me, we can just call it a dowry."
