Chapter 1024: Mei Gongzi Takes the Stage
On the other side, pitch-black cracks appeared out of thin air, devouring the light energy that surged toward him. Jin Anguo's eyes burned with focus as those cracks surrounded him. They appeared naturally and they did not cause any visible phenomena, but just based on the fluctuations of the light energy in the atmosphere, one could tell just how violent the energy around Jin Anguo was.
But Radiant Dragon King Xu An'yu didn't give up his probing attack. Instead, he asked in a low voice, "Still want to fight?"
Jin Anguo's gaze flickered slightly, and the cracks around him shrank back a little. Then, he replied with just two words.
"I concede."
The holy light receded, and the cracks in space around Jin Anguo vanished along with it.
Eh? It's over, just like that?
From up in the air, the Undying Demon Emperor announced, "Winner, Xu An'yu of the Radiant Dragon clan. Two points awarded."
Hey, hey, hold the fuck up. What was that!?
The spectators erupted in a clamor. This had clearly been a clash between two titans, two of the strongest contestants, yet it had ended just like that? As the Lord of Sky-Splitting City and successor to an Emperor, Jin Anguo had chosen to surrender outright? Wasn't that too cowardly?
Only those with true strength understood that the contest between them had already started from the very first instant.
Xu An'yu's Light Sprite had exceeded Jin Anguo's expectations. Jin Anguo had his own trump cards, of course, but this was only the first match of the semifinals. If he revealed his hand right now, then even if he won, the exposure would make the rest of the tournament extremely difficult. More importantly, that was if he won. Jin Anguo wasn't confident of victory. And this wasn't a match he absolutely had to win in the Battle for the Throne. Rather than risk a hard fight that could leave him heavily wounded and struggling in the rounds ahead, he chose to concede strategically.
There was another deeper reason: they were both from demons. In terms of their nation's interests, it was better to ensure all the nymph contestants were dealt with during the round-robin. That was the common interest of the Empyrean Dominion. So why would they choose to clash at this stage when they could duke it out later? There were three spots in the finals, after all.
