The silence in the Keep was unnatural.
No humming engines. No buzzing drones. Just the muffled crack of ice spreading along steel walls like a slow infection.
Kiro pressed forward.
Each corner he turned revealed more horror: guards flash-frozen in defensive stances, their weapons sheathed in glassy frost. Some had been mid-sentence, mouths caught in permanent shouts. Others had their veins crystallized, frost branching from their tear ducts like spiderwebs.
He crouched beside one—a commander, badge still pinned to his chest.
The man's eye was wide open.
