Chapter 99
"According to the mission parameters, our job was to investigate the surrounding area. We’ve already covered enough ground—going any deeper is beyond our current team’s capacity."
The speaker was a burly man with thickly muscled arms—each about the same size as Saitama’s thigh.
Saitama frowned, unable to sense the enemy’s strength. He remained still, wary of making the first move.
"All right, stay sharp and prepare to withdraw," the kunoichi whispered. She was the team’s sensory type, acting as their eyes and ears. "We’re too close to the enemy’s camp. There might be hidden sentries nearby."
"Hm?" Just as she finished speaking, she caught a faint chakra fluctuation in the earth nearby. It was subtle—but noticeable to a trained sensor.
"Wait," she signaled to her teammates, eyes narrowing toward the patch of land where Uchiha Huo was hiding.
"Whish—" The entire squad immediately tensed. The jōnin drew the massive broadsword from his back—a heavy blade with a dull edge, built for crushing.
"Tch." Saitama’s gaze sharpened. He realized their position was compromised. The enemy had noticed them—combat was unavoidable now.
"Who’s there?" one of the enemy shinobi called out, cautiously stepping toward Uchiha Huo’s hiding spot.
The air seemed to grow heavier, the wind falling still. Cold sweat dripped down Huo’s forehead. He had shifted slightly from fatigue, unintentionally exposing the thin chakra veil concealing him.
Huo’s eyes darted toward his comrade, Uchiha Yan, who crouched behind a nearby tree. His lips tightened, veins bulged at his temples—his Byakugan already activated.
