Chapter 1658 - 1652: Go Take a Look
"I also don’t understand what my dad means by this. Why would the location be at a coal mine?" Wang Jingman looked at Chen Yang’s tightly furrowed brows, as she too couldn’t comprehend.
Who would’ve thought that stone had anything to do with a coal mine.
"Maybe the stone really is related to the coal mine. Since your dad made it so clear, I should go take a look. Only then will we know what’s really going on."
Chen Yang didn’t understand, but he trusted that Wang’s father wouldn’t speak lightly.
Since the coordinates were sent, it implies there’s something peculiar about this coal mine, so everything has to wait until we get there to know.
"When do you plan to head over?"
Wang Jingman heard what Chen Yang meant and immediately asked.
Without hesitation, Chen Yang replied, "I plan to set off tonight."
"In such a hurry? How about we go together tomorrow?"
Wang Jingman suggested.
"Better not. This thing is quite important to me. Figuring out its origin could greatly help me," Chen Yang promptly replied.
Ever since he sensed the rich Spiritual Energy contained in the stone, Chen Yang had been preoccupied with it.
This is a good thing. If it can be exchanged for money, it would be immensely beneficial to him.
"Alright then, I’ll accompany you,"
Wang Jingman decided. Although she wanted to leave tomorrow, seeing how eager Chen Yang was, she decided to go along with him.
Chen Yang initially wanted to refuse since Wang Jingman had no fighting strength and might cause trouble if they went.
But on second thought, he decided they should go together.
After all, with his skills, protecting one person wouldn’t be a problem.
"Okay, let’s go together. We’ll depart now."
Chen Yang got up, ready to leave.
Wang Jingman didn’t dawdle; she stood up too, and they set off together.
It was around seven, almost eight in the evening when the two set out.
The neighboring county wasn’t far. After more than an hour on the highway, they reached the neighboring county.
Then they traveled another half hour on rural roads to arrive at the location Wang’s father had sent.
North Town Coal Mine.
It’s a fairly sizable mine, though somewhat remote.
Despite the name ’North Town’, it wasn’t very far from the county town, but several mountains lay between.
Thus, the entire mine looked like it was nestled deep in the mountains, appearing quite secluded.
Moreover, the mine had a slightly eerie atmosphere.
Since it’s in the mountains, the surroundings were dark, with only a few lights in the mine, lending an eerie feeling.
Chen Yang drove to a small hill that overlooked the mine and quickly turned off the engine.
They had come to investigate secretly, and it was best not to be discovered.
"Chen Yang, this just looks like an ordinary mine. I don’t see anything special," Wang Jingman said, sitting in the passenger seat, earnestly observing the mine below.
Other than being dim, this mine didn’t seem special at all.
Several pitch-black mine shafts were surrounded by heaps of excavated coal.
Beside these coal piles were numerous shanties.
Most of those rooms were lit, obviously serving as lodging and rest spots for the miners.
The entire scene looked quite normal; after all, this is typical for most coal mines.
But still, since her father said it was special, there must be something unique about this place.
"From the outside, you can’t see much. I’ll go down and have a look. Wait in the car, lock the doors and windows, and don’t let anyone discover you." Chen Yang thought for a moment, unbuckling his seatbelt, ready to inspect.
Having followed along, Wang Jingman knew she couldn’t offer much help, so she nodded.
"Alright, be careful, and return quickly if something’s wrong,"
Wang Jingman cautioned.
"Mm, I’m off." Chen Yang nodded in agreement, then opened the car door and left.
The surrounding forest was dense and the environment dim.
Apart from some lights at the mine, it was so dark elsewhere that one couldn’t see their hand in front of their face.
But luckily, this environment didn’t affect him much.
He swiftly navigated through the woods, descended the mountain, and approached the mine.
The mine had fairly decent security, perhaps to prevent theft or some other reason.
There were even security personnel patrolling near the mine.
Noticing their presence, Chen Yang quickly bypassed them and entered the mine.
Once inside, his first target was the coal heaps left from mining.
To inspect if the coal extracted here had any peculiarities.
He grabbed a handful, studying it closely in his hand.
He found this coal was no different from coal elsewhere, all very ordinary.
Noticing no anomalies in the coal, he immediately proceeded to check other areas.
The second place he went was the workers’ rest area.
The houses here were all shanties, with minimal soundproofing.
Chen Yang didn’t need to eavesdrop; just passing by, he could hear the sounds inside.
It was close to nine, almost ten, and workers gathered in groups playing cards, drinking, and chatting.
Generally, these conversations meant nothing to Chen Yang; he was just passing through.
But one conversation among the drinkers unexpectedly caught his attention.
"Old Wu, how’s it going recently, have you come across any of those stones while mining?"
"Oh, don’t mention it. Where would we get such luck nowadays? We haven’t hit any except for the ones dug up from underground."
"Haha, when you’re out of luck, you’re just out of luck. But Old Ma in the next room dug one up today and got a reward of over five thousand."
"What, really? Then I gotta ask Old Ma to treat me to drinks tomorrow, such great luck."
...
The men mentioned stones during their talk.
This immediately made Chen Yang connect it to the spiritually rich stone from today.
"Could it be, that stone really came from this mine?"
Chen Yang furrowed his brows, and such thoughts involuntarily surfaced in his mind.
"Haha, why ask him to treat you? Let’s work hard together tomorrow, maybe we’ll mine one."
...
While pondering, the workers’ chatter reached him again.
But the following content was repetitive, offering no value to him.
Chen Yang stood there, instinctively casting his eyes toward the two black holes not far away.
They were the mine shafts.
At this moment, Chen Yang wondered if he should go and take a look.
Perhaps he could really find something.
After a brief contemplation, he decisively started moving closer.
At night, since no workers were operating, no lights were on in the mine shafts.
The entire downward cave looked like a gaping black maw, seeming ominous and eerie.
But for Chen Yang, it posed no significant issue.
Without hesitation, he stepped into the mine.
Inside, the first impression was the air was incredibly stale; prolonged exposure would surely harm the body.
And it wasn’t just the air; the mine emitted a pungent smell from the coal as well.
Indeed, entering here made the whole body uncomfortable.
