Long regarded as the grandest national holiday, one might expect something monumental for Seollal, but unfortunately, its status had long been lost, at least in our Koryo.

Here, August 23, the Victory Day, is celebrated most grandly, followed by New Year's on December 31 and January 1. Seollal and Chuseok, by comparison, have met the unfortunate fate of being downscaled due to being overshadowed by New Year and Victory Day celebrations.

However, on the flip side, it tends to be that family interactions, such as conversations, are more concentrated during Seollal and Chuseok. Since Victory Day and New Year's involve large-scale events, they attract tens of thousands of people, leaving little time for intimate family gatherings.

By the time Chuseok arrives, the crowd thins to thousands, and by Seollal, it's reduced to just family gatherings.
