Chapter 307: Licking Away the Tears
When Adele woke up again, it was the dimmest hour of dusk.
To be precise, it wasn’t quite waking up.
The dim and quiet surroundings, coupled with her own disorientation, made her think she was still in a meaningless dream.
But soon, a faint light flickered in her slightly opened eyes.
Even this small spark was enough to enhance the girl’s already bright and delicate features.
Adele was a girl suited for sunshine; anyone would think so. But some people were suited for the cold moonlight, like Hermione, like Edith... and First Snow.
She saw First Snow curled up in her arms, in cat form. Her soft body rose and fell gently with each breath, her whiskers and fluffy outline shimmering in the faint moonlight, along with those golden wings Adele often joked about roasting and eating. This was what lit up Adele’s eyes.
So, I should dream of First Snow. This bad cat doesn’t even miss me... but I miss her. You dream what you think about during the day, the old saying went.
Thinking of this, Adele felt pathetic, not in a derogatory sense, but in a self-deprecating way, like she had sold herself short. She had given her heart away so easily; how could she not be considered cheap?
Adele sniffled, a mix of emotions welling up in her heart, like a spilled spice rack. But even so, because she thought this was a dream, Adele instinctively reached out and held First Snow tighter. If this were reality, she would definitely sulk for a long time, making First Snow realize her mistake. But now, without any other thoughts, not wanting to play any mind games, she just wanted to hold First Snow close, to do what she had been wanting to do since she decided to return to school: “Pet the cat.” But back then, Adele could proudly and boastfully declare, “First Snow is my cat, what headmaster, I don’t understand!” And now, even her petting was cautious, as if touching something precious and unattainable.
Suddenly, a pair of bright eyes opened slowly, meeting Adele’s.
First Snow’s eyes were filled with wavering and trembling.
