Chapter 782 - 780: An Unnecessary Addition
Jiang Yifan spread his hands, helpless, "This humble official just can’t pretend not to know. Ah Yan kneeling in broad daylight on the path where officials must pass to court; who wouldn’t know about it?"
Indeed, the place and timing Ye Zi chose to kneel made it impossible for anyone to miss.
Jinrong fixed his gaze on Jiang Yifan, finding him increasingly unpleasant to look at. What was he thinking bringing this guy into his circle of friends? Looking at him now, it appeared as though he was flaunting his wife.
"Why isn’t Ye Zi here, but you are?" Jinrong huffed and asked.
"The Duke has only just returned and is looking for Ye Zi to talk, even I was turned away. I heard Your Highness was coming, so I came to inform you first."
"Oh?" Jinrong hesitated for a moment, somewhat concerned, "Duke An isn’t going to punish her, is he? Grounding her or making her kneel in the ancestral hall or something?" It shouldn’t be the case, right? Duke An must have grown accustomed to his granddaughter’s troublemaking by now; if he were to punish her, he would have done so long ago. There’s no need to start now.
Jiang Yifan glanced sidelong at Jinrong. Sixth Master, your relationship with Ah Yan is merely cooperative, don’t you think your question oversteps a bit?
"It’s okay, Ah Yan knows how to handle Duke An, everything will be fine."
"That’s good to hear." Then, with a frown, Jinrong asked, "The Imperial Father asked Ye Zi to draft a proposal in the Imperial Study Room; does she have any ideas? She seemed troubled when I saw her."
Jiang Yifan’s face revealed a slight smile, somewhat proudly looking at Jinrong. He then pulled out a stack of folded papers from his sleeve.
"Has she already written it?" Jinrong asked, surprised and taken aback.
Jiang Yifan said, "Your Highness, please have a look, these are the draft documents Ah Yan wrote after she returned. She had written these when I came, then Duke An called her to his study. Ah Yan probably had some rough ideas for the lawsuit, but she didn’t expect His Majesty would assign her a task. Her difficulty likely stemmed from her dilemma about whether to ask His Majesty for a salary..."
