The path to the student council office was eerie and silent, primarily because I was heading there at nearly midnight.

By my side were individuals I could confidently say were the closest to me in the academy.

Matt, Amy, Anica, and finally... Reni.

I was walking at the rear of the group alongside Matt while the girls walked ahead, laughing and discussing something neither Matt nor I quite grasped.

I glanced at Matt, who wore a stern expression. "Hmm... Matt."

His eyes, still burning with fury, met mine. "What?"

"Sorry, man. That was my fault."

Matt sighed. "I’m not angry anymore, but I’ll still get back at you, just wait and see."

I smiled. If someone had told me a week ago that I would become friends with the character I created in my lonely apartment and that I would be surrounded by others beyond my family—honestly, I would have labeled them a psycho.

"So why do you think the president is calling us?"

I looked at Matt, then back at the girls, who were in nightgowns, except for Amy, who wore a blue two-piece. "I think the real question is why he’s calling us in the middle of the night while we’re in our night wear."
