Chapter 47: Ch 47: A Visit- Part 4
Fredric sank back into his chair as Fenrir left the room, the door clicking shut behind him. He let out a long sigh, the weight of the conversation pressing down on him.
A part of him wanted to strangle his younger brother for being so stubborn, so unwilling to accept help or guidance.
The other part of him, however, couldn’t help but admire Fenrir’s tenacity.
His little brother was no longer the clueless, dependent youth he used to be.
Fenrir was a force to be reckoned with now, and Fredric found himself in the uncomfortable position of trying to protect someone who didn’t want protecting.
"It was so much easier when he was a good-for-nothing."
Fredric muttered under his breath. Back then, he only had to throw money at Fenrir’s messes, cover up his misdeeds, and pretend nothing had happened.
But now, with Fenrir’s identity as ’X’ coming to light, the stakes were higher.
The world was after him, and it wasn’t just a matter of paying people off anymore. Fredric had to work hard to shield his brother, and that realization made his head throb.
"Still complaining, Fredric?"
A voice broke through his thoughts.
