Chapter 15. The old hag is gone!
Gerald's unique skill was invisibility—a power that didn't just cloak him from sight, but erased every trace of his presence as if he were nothing more than a phantom on the wind.
He walked the streets, determined to go and finish off the OP old hag.
Now that he knew where she lived, he made his way directly to Suzune's hideout. He studied the place in silence. Then he crouched beside a patch of lawn, where a concealed lid lay half-hidden in the overgrown grass. It was the same entrance he'd seen Elena use. Carefully, he set the cover aside and descended into the tunnel below.
He moved through the underground passage like a shadow. When he reached the door, he paused.
One breath. Two. Three.
He had seen what this woman could do. Invisibility might shield him from being seen, but it didn't guarantee survival.
The door was unlocked. He pushed it open inch by inch, the hinges groaning softly like a whisper through the still air. Peeking inside, he found her.
Suzune lay asleep on the bed, snoring faintly, face tilted toward the ceiling. She looked fragile in that moment.
He stepped closer, standing at her bedside with the patience of a predator. He grabbed the axe in his hands tightly as a cruel grin formed on his unseen face.
Then he struck.
No warning. No scream.
