Awakening the Divine Spark

Chapter 38: Confession.

This was the first time one of them mentioned events at the New Year's celebrations, and Lee rushed to finally apologize, but after saying 'I'm sorry', he only felt more bitter than ever. Looking at Tess's aged face, he realized there was nothing he could say or do to make up for the stupid thing he did.

Yes, he was clueless at the time, but this was not his first life! He had to act more maturely!

Tess had different things on her mind, though. She asked, "Why didn't you ask me and your father to get you a spark? In a few years we would've found you a high quality one and properly guided you through the ritual. And while it is probably impossible to find as unique spark as Lance's, there was no reason to kill him for it."

"The spark was an accident." Lee said with a sigh, and immediately realized he let his tongue slip.

Confusion was written all over Tess's face and, after weighing his options for a moment, Lee decided to be completely honest with the person who had sacrificed everything for him. Obviously it was another attempt to make himself feel better, not to justify his actions, but as it turned out revealing one of his secrets actually had a soothing effect.

He said, "You are my mom and always will be. But Lance was one of the people who killed my birth parents. And so was Drevin."

Lee watched Tess expression change, and it wasn't hard to guess that within few moments she went through a myriad of emotions. Probably her child being a stone cold killer was the most shocking one.

As it turns out he was wrong again. Tess barely audibly whispered, "So you know? ... how? Who told you?"

Clearly the carefully guarded secret of Lee nor being her biological son was her weak point. All these years she happily lived the illusion of being a mother, and now panicked in fear he would abandon her.
