I exhaled sharply, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. Or maybe I was just trying to hide the growing erection in my fitted jeans.
Faith, to her credit, didn’t say anything right away. She just looked around, as if she were genuinely interested in the towering containers or the scent of saltwater and engine oil hanging in the air.
"So... this is where you work?" she finally asked, breaking the silence.
I let out a dry chuckle. "Yeah... Something like that."
She nodded slowly, then turned her gaze to me. "You’re mad at me."
I scoffed, shaking my head. "Mad? No... I’m not mad, That’d mean I still care."
Faith sighed, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Danladi, I—"
"No." My voice came out sharper than I intended, but I didn’t correct it. "Whatever you think you need to say, don’t. It won’t change anything."
For a second, she looked like she wanted to argue. Like she had something important to get off her chest. But then, she dropped it.
"Fine," she said softly.
Another moment of silence stretched between us. I leaned against the car, arms crossed, my gaze drifting over the endless rows of cargo containers and the occasional crane lifting shipments in the distance. Faith sat on the hood, legs crossed at the ankles, absentmindedly fidgeting with her nails.
