Chapter 30
Tuesday 6:30 pm. 3 Days until the big day.
I woke up feeling exhausted, like I'd spent the afternoon doing hard labor instead of sleeping. I didn't even remember lying down, let alone falling asleep.
The last thing I recalled was stepping into the house, dropping my laptop, and fixing something to eat. After that? Nothing.
I sat on the edge of my bed, rubbing my face as the memories of the day settled in. My room was a mess. My own doing, of course. With a sigh, I grabbed my earbuds, plugged them in, and hit play on my phone.
Something about the music gave me a sudden burst of motivation. I started tidying up, fixing my wardrobe, sweeping the floor, even cleaning my bathroom. I had no idea where the urge came from, but it felt good.
By the time I was almost done, sweat clung to my skin, so I pulled my shirt off and tossed it aside. That's when I caught movement from the corner of my eye.
I turned and there she was. Abigail. She stood in the doorway, staring. I pulled out one earbud.
"Hey... uh, what's up?"
She didn't answer right away, her eyes locked on my abs.
"Abigail?" I called again.
She blinked, snapping out of whatever trance she was in. "Uhh... I didn't know you were back already," she said, voice slightly offbeat. "I heard noise, so I came to check what was going on in your room."
