Chapter 22
I finally stepped out of my room. Esther's room was down the hallway, I tried eavesdropping if I could hear anything from her room but I heard nothing.
I gave up and decided it was time to eat before I passed out from hunger. I left for the kitchen.
Getting to the kitchen, I saw the food Joyce and Abigail had cooked earlier in the morning. Jollof rice and crispy chicken.
It was cold so I had to microwave it. I took the portion of rice I could finish and 3 chicken laps, put it in the microwave and I set the timer to 10 minutes. I didn't feel like waiting around so I went the sitting room to watch English Premier League highlights.
I finally heard Esther coming down the stairs, she was all dressed up and seemed to be heading out, she looked really sad and this made me uneasy, I stood up, walked up to her, I met her by the door. She didn't say a word to me and I felt like I did something bad to her.
I held her hand and asked softly. "What's wrong with you?". She didn't say anything. And then I saw tears streaming down her cheeks.
I hated seeing people cry. Especially when I might have been the reason behind it.
I held her hand with my left hand, wiping her tears off with my right hand. I was quite taller than she was so I raised her head by lifting her chin up, looking into her eyes and asked again.
"Did I do something wrong?"
She finally spoke and told me what was wrong.
Turns out she was the emotionally unstable type of girl who covered her insecurities by being mean to everyone lower than her. Because it made her feel better?
