Chapter 15: Guard And Initial Training
Lizbeth tilted her head, puzzled. "You recognize me? I thought we hadn’t met before?"
"We haven’t," Raelis replied flatly. "But the emperor did say he would be assigning me a guard all those years ago. I assumed that guard was you, considering coachmen wouldn’t have such intricate calluses."
"Hmm... you’re right," Lizbeth said skeptically, brushing a strand of her black hair behind her ear. "I only have to fulfill my duties until you enroll in the academy, so until then, I’m all yours."
A faint smile appeared on Raelis’s face. "I thought you would be a bit more stuck up, given how you’re from a noble house."
"Pfft... a fallen noble house, you mean?" Lizbeth replied with a scoff. "I only have my title and my last name. Aside from that, I don’t own anything but my sword."
With those words, she pushed back her robe, revealing a thin, delicate-looking blade.
But Raelis could immediately tell it was forged with an extremely rare alloy, likely one of the best in the entire empire.
As readily as she showed it, she quickly hid it away.
"Anyways... do you prefer young master or Raelis Varekan?" Lizbeth asked, slightly furrowing her brows. "Those are the only options, by the way. Don’t make me call you something lewd."
"Raelis is fine," he replied with a chuckle and stepped out of the carriage. "Don’t wake my mom. She deserves the rest."
"Sure thing, Raelis," Lizbeth replied and gestured toward the manor. "Do you want a tour?"
"Not at the moment, no." Raelis shook his head. "Just tell me how many people are present."
