The Shadow of a Luna

Chapter 35

The next morning was a little tense around the mansion. Angelo and his siblings stayed awake and we stayed inside with them all until we were ready to leave. They were worried for us. Well, for me at least. I know that they don’t really care about wolves. But I was their blood. So I knew that they were worried for me.

Hardly any of them would leave my side for very long at a time but I have to say, it was nice to actually have family that cared about me. It was a really weird feeling.

Tyler and the others stayed back while I was in the living room with Angelo, Elias, Charles, Finn, Naomi and Ruby. We were getting to know each other a whole lot better and trying to lighten the mood a bit and we were actually all mostly paying out on Angelo. They looked like they still resented him for what he did, but at the end of the day, they showed up when he needed them. So I guess there isn’t as much animosity as they want everyone to believe. And he wasn’t taking anything they said to heart. He was laughing and kidding around with them too. It’s the most I’ve seen him kid around since I met him.

We were actually one big happy family for a moment there. And I glanced over in the dining room and Tyler was sitting at the end of the table just watching us with a smile on his face and he winked at me. He could feel how happy I was at this moment and he was happy for me. I finally had the family connection that I’ve been craving my whole life. Too bad that it happened this late and not when I was 6 years old. I could have grown up with a loving mother and father if Daniel didn’t get in the way.

I quickly push those thoughts out of my head. I didn’t want to think about him. He was dead and he didn’t deserve my thoughts on him. He deserved to stay dead and buried. Or burnt. But I did smile when I think about the look on his face if he could see me sitting here with Angelo. He would be completely livid. And that was definitely worth smiling about.

For vampires my aunts and uncles were actually pretty cool people. They didn’t kill humans. I noticed that they ripped off blood banks and that sort of stuff. So they didn’t kill people at all. They were, I guess, decent vampires. Who stole charity blood, which wasn’t so good, but it was so much better than the alternative. I was proud of them for the way that they lived. I loved the way that they lived. And I was more than happy to have them in my life for the rest of my life if that’s the way that they wanted to live.

"Alright guys. Sorry to break this up. It’s time." Tyler says at the doorway. I knew that he was giving us as much time together as possible this morning. But we really did need to get going.

"Alright. Well, I guess I will see you all shortly." I say standing up.

"You better come back to us." Elias says hugging me. And I hugged Naomi, Finn and Ruby. And Angelo walked up and cupped my face.

"I’m sorry for everything that I did. I didn’t realize what I was doing by keeping you here. I hope that one day you can forgive me." He says.

"I will forgive you. You can count on that." I say. And he hugged me really tight like he didn’t want to let me go.

Ruby and Naomi hugged Tyler as well and the guys shook his hand.
