Chapter 161: So Scared
"Brother, I’m already fine. Don’t worry."
Lily’s small fingers twitched slightly beneath Gray’s hand. Even with the IV in her arm and the color drained from her cheeks, she gave his hand a tiny squeeze to say that she was really fine.
Gray’s chest tightened at it.
Still, he didn’t move. He just stayed there with his forehead against the bed, one hand curled around hers, the other trembling faintly in his lap. He didn’t want her to see him like this.
He didn’t want her to know how scared he had been. So he could only hide his face. The fear was still clinging to him, buried in the back of his throat and burning behind his eyes.
Selina walked over to the opposite side of the bed and gently placed a damp towel on Lily’s forehead. Her touch was careful, and her vice remained quiet and soothing as she looked down at Lily.
"The nurse said Lily should rest for a while," Selina murmured. "They gave her fluids and something for the pain."
Gray just nodded. After a second, he took a deep breath and raised his head.
"Do you know what happened? She was fine this morning," he said softly, as if still trying to believe it. "She even texted me by lunchtime."
"I think it started right after she got home. She told me she bought ice cream outside her school. She said it was from a small shop that just opened near the gate." Selina sighed as she told Gray what Lily shared with her.
Gray’s head lifted slightly.
"She bought ice cream?"
