Chapter 28: Contracts and The Frontline
Vargan POV
"Quicken your pace!" I called out to my troops - the huge, well-positioned army of dwarves marching through the misty terrain, "Don't let the vanguards work go to waste!"
A cheer resounded, and the army moved forward with renewed vigor.
My boots stomped through the grass as I ventured deeper into the dark forest behind them, feeling a bit uneasy.
The assault was going well so far - it was turning out to be less of an assault and more of a beatdown.
Honestly, it was going too well.
While I had never directly clashed with the Succubus Queen herself, I had seen what her underlings had done to many of my kind.
The life-drained corpses that result from succubi venturing out to 'hunt' and taking enchanted men back to their homes. The robotically enslaved gaze of a dwarf whose mind was no longer his own.
I could never forget the sight of my former general, who had ventured out to look for a missing member of his personal squad, lying lifeless on the ground - his body drained of energy by a Succubus General.
So, for such a fierce opponent to crumble beneath the force of my army so easily was surprising, to say the least.
Granted, with the help we had, I guess I shouldn't expect any less.
