Chapter 2210 - 2211: My Cousin Is the Capitalist Heiress 30
Zhang Fu and the others really didn’t want to read Zhang Yu’s letters, as all she wrote about was making three meals a day for Zhang Hui, how the food turned out, how much she ate, and how much laundry she did, etc.
Basically, it was listing all the chores she did, letting them know that the monthly payment they gave her was more than worth it.
Every time Xu Ling saw Zhang Yu’s letters, she would just curl her lip and not want to read them, "Really, it’s always about these things."
"As an elder sister, isn’t it her duty to take care of her younger sister?" Xu Ling muttered in various ways, her words full of dissatisfaction with Zhang Yu.
Xue Lei on the side kept echoing, while brothers Zhang Fu and Zhang Gui didn’t say anything, but their constant nodding made their thoughts clear.
Zhang Juan was busy with housework, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work, really unable to understand why, even with two fewer people, there was still so much work for her to do.
Upon hearing these words, she no longer thought their words were right as she once did. Over the past few months, she had become truly exhausted, getting up earliest and going to bed last, taking on all the household chores.
Despite doing so much, no one appreciated her, all saying various bad things about her. Now she could really sympathize with Zhang Yu.
Of course she still resented Zhang Yu, wondering why she hadn’t let Zhang Tao and the others do the work back then. If she had, they would be doing it now.
Seeing Xu Ling casually put Zhang Yu’s letter aside, she picked it up, wanting to see exactly what Zhang Yu had been up to.
After opening the letter and seeing the agreement Zhang Yu noted, she quickly read through it; seeing the contents left her silent. She knew that once her parents saw this, they’d definitely fly into all sorts of rages, but she couldn’t avoid showing them, or it would cause big trouble.
"Mom, Dad, that thing in elder sister’s letter." Zhang Juan carefully handed it to them, "You have to see it."
"She says, if you don’t agree, then next month, don’t send her any money; she won’t help second sister with the chores anymore," Zhang Juan worried they wouldn’t bother looking and spoke up directly.
What? Xu Ling and the others really didn’t plan to look, but upon hearing Zhang Juan’s words, they immediately grabbed the letter.
Xu Ling looked at the contents, so angry she was about to spit blood, "Truly an ungrateful daughter."
Zhang Fu and the others took a look and were enraged, cursing constantly, "This is getting more and more outrageous."
"She really thinks we can’t do anything about her," Zhang Fu fumed, "When that dead girl comes back, I’ll definitely give her a good beating."
"Big brother, don’t talk like that now. She’s in the Northeast, and if she’s not coming back, we can’t exactly take leave to go there," Zhang Gui took a deep breath.
What was the point of getting this angry now? If they hadn’t been careless with their words, letting Zhang Yu overhear things she shouldn’t have, none of this would’ve happened, and there wouldn’t have been so much financial loss.
If they really wanted to beat her up, why didn’t they do it thoroughly before? If they had seriously reprimanded her then, maybe this girl wouldn’t have turned out like this.
Seeing Zhang Gui’s displeased expression, Zhang Fu’s face turned somewhat sheepish. He knew his brother and sister-in-law were still resentful about the night-time leakage incident back then, "What do we do now?"
"That dead girl will really follow through," Zhang Fu cautiously looked at Zhang Gui.
After all, the agreement required signatures. Sigh, Zhang Fu really didn’t understand how Zhang Yu could have turned into this.
"What if we don’t agree, let Xiao Hui do the chores?" Zhang Gui retorted indignantly.
"Exactly, if we don’t agree, then either let Xiao Hui do them." Recently affected by the remittances to Zhang Yu, Xue Lei already harbored a variety of grievances against Zhang Yu.
"We can’t possibly send Zhang Bin there, can we?" Xue Lei actually considered previously that Zhang Yu was quite disobedient, maybe they should send an obedient child instead.
Xue Lei knew that Zhang Yu didn’t look after Zhang Hui that well, but there was no way around it. She did cook three meals a day, helped with laundry, and cleaned the house now and then. It was already quite good. Zhang Hui was unhappy because Zhang Yu wasn’t as obedient as before, not doing whatever she was told.
Lately, Xue Lei had been thinking of arranging someone to go over, and after contemplating, she felt Zhang Bin was the most suitable candidate.
What? Send Zhang Bin over? When Zhang Fu and Xu Ling heard this, their faces changed abruptly. They liked Zhang Hui, but that was because she was Gao Jianbo’s daughter. If the Bao Family ever returned, they hoped to be seen favorably for taking good care of Zhang Hui, possibly receiving some money again.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t care about Zhang Hui. As a result, Xue Lei’s suggestion to let Zhang Bin go over and take care of Zhang Hui surprised them, "We’ve already arranged for Zhang Yu to take care of Xiao Hui; she is cooking, doing laundry, and looking after Xiao Hui."
"If you still want someone to go over and take care of her, then send Xiao Li," Xu Ling said flatly.
Zhang Bin was on the side reading letters from Zhang Hui when he heard Xue Lei’s proposal for him to go to the Northeast to take care of Zhang Hui; it gave him a shiver.
These past two months, he often heard Zhang Juan complain about how tiring housework was every day. Although he didn’t care too much, he comforted Zhang Juan on the surface. However, each time he read Zhang Yu’s letters listing her daily chores, it made him shiver.
The thought of going to the Northeast, working on the land every day, plus doing all those chores, made him shiver.
He knew his parents often complained about having to remit money to Zhang Yu each month, talking about how it strained the family’s finances.
This time, his parents were unwilling probably because they didn’t want to remit money to Zhang Yu anymore. Although he also supported not sending money to Zhang Yu, he certainly didn’t want to go to the Northeast to take care of Zhang Hui.
This made him nervous, worried his parents might listen to his aunt and uncle and actually agree to send him to the Northeast to take care of Zhang Hui.
He knew if he went to the Northeast, the family wouldn’t send him money anymore. These months he started working, spending his income himself. Although he was still earning an apprentice’s wage, he could transition next year, with an income of at least twenty units or more.
Though working was tough, at least he didn’t have to do housework at home, at least he had about ten units of pocket money each month, which was far better than going to the Northeast to do farm work and house chores.
Fortunately, despite their fondness for Zhang Hui, his parents did not agree but instead suggested Zhang Li.
Xu Ling’s suggestion made Zhang Li, who was quietly reading, tense up.
As Zhang Gui’s eldest son, Zhang Li was actually unhappy with his parents’ favoritism towards Zhang Hui. No matter how much they liked a daughter, they shouldn’t prioritize her over their eldest son.
He had protested before, but his parents just said he was immature, leaving him with no choice but to be good to Zhang Hui.
He was truly worried back then, wondering if they’d send him to be an intellectual youth. Thankfully, it ended up being Zhang Hui who went to the Northeast. While they sent her money each month, he comforted himself that it was better than going there himself.
He didn’t expect that now, even after having started working, they were still discussing who to send to take care of Zhang Hui. He really wanted to curse; after several months in the Northeast, how had she not learned to cook and do laundry? How would she get married in the future?
