Chapter 2208 - 2209: My Cousin Is the Capitalist’s Daughter 28
Zhao Yadong listened to the sisters’ conversation, feeling really uneasy about the complex relationship between them.
He didn’t expect such a relationship; Zhang Yu helping Zhang Hui with work, as she mentioned, actually had money involved.
This relationship was indeed complicated, and Zhao Yadong wondered if it was suitable for them, as outsiders, to overhear such things.
But then he glanced at Qian Hao, who was engrossed in his meal without pause, ignoring the sisters’ disputes even during mealtime.
Zhang Hui was angry but reluctant to leave the delicious food behind, so she didn’t nag Zhang Yu, instead eating voraciously. The more she ate, the less Zhang Yu would get, right?
Exactly, like that, Zhang Hui was eating with big bites. Zhang Yu, noticing her eating hastily, became a bit uneasy, "I know you have an issue with me, but you shouldn’t neglect your health."
Having been here for some time, Zhang Yu was sure that Zhang Hui’s previous meal sizes weren’t genuine. At home, she snacked, and at mealtimes, she ate less.
After arriving in the Northeast, with no snacks, Zhang Hui’s food intake gradually increased, but not to an exaggerated extent.
Watching her eat rapidly, Zhang Yu got nervous; indigestion is an uncomfortable feeling.
Most importantly, if she had to see a doctor for this discomfort, the news would spread, and Zhang Yu could guarantee that people would immediately associate her with this indigestion issue before she left.
Zhang Hui intended to say it was her business, but then she remembered and immediately slowed her eating pace, waiting for Zhang Yu to vow not to mention the agreement to their family.
Zhang Yu glanced at Zhang Hui, noting her slowing down, and relaxed completely, continuing to eat leisurely and share interesting work stories with Qian Hao and others.
Zhang Hui didn’t expect Zhang Yu to be so indifferent quickly, chatting happily with Qian Hao, which left her feeling displeased.
Zhang Hui really couldn’t understand why, despite being pretty and gentle, Qian Hao didn’t like her.
If they liked her, she was confident she could revert Zhang Yu to the obedient version she once was.
Unfortunately, Qian Hao and others kept their distance; though they chatted, they didn’t share such joyful banter.
Now both were quietly eating, but Zhang Hui knew they sided with Zhang Yu; otherwise, why wouldn’t they inform her when selling the mushrooms?
Getting angrier with the thought, Zhang Hui didn’t want to stay in the same room with them and left, giving a heavy cold snort as she passed Qian Hao.
Hearing this, Zhao Yadong was understandably upset; what did the sisters’ issues have to do with them?
He was just about to get up when he saw Qian Hao shaking his head, leaving him no choice but to sit down again.
After Zhang Hui left, Zhang Yu kept apologizing, "Sorry, sorry, it’s all my fault."
"I underestimated things; I thought everyone at home knew the money they send monthly was my wages. I didn’t realize... sigh," Zhang Yu said helplessly.
"It’s not about you. Since it was agreed as wages, it should be wages," Zhao Yadong interjected, "By the way, about the money from that sika deer you caught last time."
Zhao Yadong took out a thick wad of cash from his pocket, intending to hand it all over, but he stopped when he saw Zhang Hui, opting not to continue.
"Thanks to her speaking up, otherwise..." Zhao Yadong kept apologizing, undoubtedly siding with Zhang Yu.
Qian Hao slowly swallowed his food, "Why are you both apologizing? If it didn’t erupt today, it would’ve in a couple of days."
Qian Hao observed that Zhang Yu truly wasn’t lacking in earning ability, "You earn a decent amount; you really don’t have to..."
"Are you suggesting I shouldn’t take this money?" Zhang Yu understood what Qian Hao was implying.
"Having family regularly sending you money at least shows they care about me."
"Plus, I don’t want to do farm work. If the family doesn’t send money, I’ll have to work to feed and clothe myself."
"Otherwise, besides gossip in the village, the words at the intellectual youth point would also be harsh."
"I need this money," Zhang Yu affirmed, "But I have to clarify it with them; more importantly, Zhang Hui lately has this attitude of entitlement."
Zhang Yu couldn’t just endure, considering she was fundamentally a pampered missy, although she was indeed using the wages. But enduring someone’s constant presumption about her money wasn’t easy.
"I need Zhang Hui to understand that even without the family-sent wages, I can live comfortably and must assert this."
Qian Hao responded with an "Mm," "By the way, the sika deer was really something; someone hopes to get a live one again."
Trapping could work, but obtaining a live one wasn’t always easy, not to mention Zhang Yu was skilled at keeping animal skins intact while still injuring them.
During the previous handover of the prey, due to time constraints, Zhao Yadong had many curiosities, "How did you manage to catch it?"
"With a lasso," Zhang Yu replied simply, "Just practice more."
This was from a past task where the lead was a prairie girl who grew up needing to know how to lasso; Zhang Yu was skilled at slingshots too.
"Injure the sika deer first, then use the lasso," Zhang Yu explained how she executed it.
She had no problem explaining; they could listen with envy, but learning wasn’t so simple.
Oh, the thought crossed Zhao Yadong’s mind that if it weren’t too difficult, he might try learning, but it sounded complicated just hearing about it.
Lasso and slingshot both, "I know how to use a slingshot, but not that skillfully..." Zhao Yadong reminisced about his childhood slingshot days, considering himself a local master.
"The reason is simple," Zhang Yu continued eating, "I may be the eldest daughter, but was a maid at home, doing all chores; no one complimented me, and when done, I ate leftovers."
"I was hungry, so I used a slingshot to hunt birds and fish." Originally, she did this but wasn’t highly skilled. However, as long as someone could confirm she often hunted with a slingshot, that was enough.
"You play with slingshots; I did it for food; that’s the difference," Zhang Yu said calmly, "Whenever it’s about survival, skills become exceptional."
"As for another live sika deer, that’ll depend on whether we encounter one. If we do, I’ll try my best." Zhang Yu handed the cash back to Zhao Yadong that he had just given her.
Zhao Yadong looked at Zhang Yu puzzled, unsure why she didn’t accept it.
"Exchange it for small yellow croakers for me. As for cash, I can’t store it, but I can easily place yellow croakers anywhere." Though there’s a lock, it’s not truly secure.
