The family temporarily settled down in the large quadrangle courtyard.
The next day Qin Jin went to work, and Li Qiao along with Old Mrs. Qin took the children and some local specialities to Old Mr. Xue’s house for a visit. As soon as they entered, Jiang Wanqiu eagerly shared with Old Mrs. Qin that Nan Chuyi was pregnant.
Old Mrs. Qin was delighted, "Congratulations, how far along is she?"
"A little over a month," Jiang Wanqiu said cheerfully. "As long as the child turns out like your family, I’ll be satisfied." She wanted to hold the child.
The child didn’t want to be held and looked away.
Old Mrs. Qin smiled, "With Nan Chuyi and Lingqing’s genes, how bad can the child be? Speaking of which, where is Nan Chuyi?"
"She went to the clinic. I told her to close it down and focus on her pregnancy, but she wouldn’t listen," Jiang Wanqiu said helplessly. "The third son doesn’t care about his wicked daughter-in-law either, and even goes there to help out, forgetting all about his own mother."
Old Mrs. Qin: "You even find fault in their affection for each other. Nan Chuyi is such a good girl, you should be satisfied! Besides, it’s boring to stay at home. Qiaoqiao only agreed to return to her parental home when she was almost due. And even then, she complained about being bored."
Li Qiao: "Being idle is indeed tough." With no entertainment, and swollen legs in the later stages making it difficult to walk far, one ends up lying in bed all day staring at the ceiling.
"If you’re bored, you could do some housework," complained Jiang Wanqiu. "It’s shameless to let an old person like me be busy all day long."
Old Mr. Xue: "The children proposed hiring a maid early on, but you refused, and now you say you’re tired—as if they’re neglecting you."
