"You must be Li Qiao," the girl said with a smile brimming with warmth. "I’ve seen your photo."
Li Qiao’s mind raced, and he ventured, "Nan Chuyi? Professor Xue’s partner? Mrs. Xue?"
"Not exactly a partner, but you can call me Mrs. Xue," she said.
Li Qiao blurted out, "Didn’t you run away?"
"Who said that?" Nan Chuyi traced the rumor to an individual, "It must have been the professor’s mom who said that. When I left, I had informed her that I was going back to my hometown for follow-up consultations with my previous patients and to deal with some house and land affairs there. I was also moving the medical books left by my grandmother here, so it would take a while to come back. And she’s been going around telling people I ran away."
They’ve already gotten the marriage certificate; where could she run?
Li Qiao didn’t dare to respond and began to make his exit, using the excuse of returning to school.
