Chapter 9 - 009: The Brainless Village Girl

"Little girl, what are you digging?" Xie Jingchen noticed the clumps of earth rolling down to his feet and had to take a few steps back before he asked aloud.
"I'll be done soon." Zhang Shanni didn't explain what she was digging. It was better if just the two of them knew about it. Announcing it would be problematic, especially since they were in the wilderness, and attracting attention would spell trouble!
She swiftly passed the gold ring to her hand with her consciousness and stealthily held it while rolling it a few times in the pit she had dug. To make it seem more realistic, she pressed the ring firmly into the mud with a stone, dug a little further down, then pretended to be done with the digging. She slipped the object into her pocket, grabbed the cloth bag, found a good spot to leverage, and jumped down from a height of over three meters without a change in expression.
The original owner of the body wasn't afraid, so she was even less so. After all, she had survived an apocalypse before; her courage was far greater than the original owner's!
"Be careful!" Xie Jingchen reflexively took a large step and managed to catch her small body as it fell, getting slapped by the heavy cloth bag in her hand. A numbing sensation immediately spread up his arm, indicating the impact was quite strong!

She guiltily approached, took his hand, and started massaging it gently yet firmly, while apologizing in a low and anxious voice:
"I'm sorry, I'm used to jumping and didn't think it was that high; it caused you to get hurt."
