Chapter 253: Sleepless night
Jia banged the door of her house shut and let go of her clutch on the couch. Ditching the heels, she started to pace around the living room while her fingers massaged her temple.
The conversation with Mrs. Lai kept hammering into her mind and the resulting mistakes she made.
I was so careless tonight!
She thought in retrospect and figured that she wouldn’t have screwed up so badly.
"I lost my calm when she was talking..."
Jia knew that she could have handled the situation better and prevented the chaos from happening that led to the escape of the leader.
She sat down on the couch, mulling over what she could have done right but feeling restless, she started walking back and forth again.
Mingshen had to remind me to warn Huojin about the escaping members...I wouldn’t have been so careless before.
"I got so panicked that I forgot all about Mingshen and left him alone to deal with the leader. I forgot about the leader himself in the first place!"
She gritted her teeth, frustrated at her own lack of direction. She took a few deep breaths to calm down but her failure at the back of her mind continued to persist.
"It was a golden chance to catch the whole cult in a swoop but I failed...Why did Aunt Lai have to be a part of the cult too!? If she hadn’t been there then...Whatever she says doesn’t matter anyway! Then why the hell am I so hung up on her?"
