After the dance was over, Jia began strolling the hall alone while sending Mingshen to scour the rest of the place for any clues. Even though he assured that Ehuang’s parents would definitely spill the beans of the real location, Jia couldn’t sit still until she was doing something.
She took a sip of her drink and as she continued walking, she thought she caught a figure of a familiar person. Her head immediately jerked to that side as her eyes narrowed. She barely saw the person leaving, making Jia quicken her pace.
As she loomed closer, she was finally caught up to the woman whose back faced her. She looked to be middle-aged with grey locks of her curled hair dangling by her ear side. She was having a pleasant conversation with another woman and Jia caught a hint of her voice.
"Mr. Huo’s speech was so heartwarming, wasn’t it? It’s so nice to see young lads all invested in such great social causes."
Jia’s eyes slightly widened.
Is that...Mrs. Lai’s voice?
Mrs. Lai was the same woman Jia came across in the mall.
"Yes, yes, the food is so great here, haha."
The more she heard her, the more Jia felt the woman strikingly similar to Mrs. Lai. Suddenly, her heartbeats quickened and she placed a trembling hand on her chest.
I am pretty sure I am hallucinating. I am still not over the conversation I guess...
There is no way Mrs. Lai could be here.
