Chapter 49 - 049 Second Batch of Pioneers
"Ma’am, I can help you carry the vegetables home if you pay me one Copper Coin?" Dumbelldore eagerly approached an old lady who was carrying a basket of vegetables and walking unsteadily, reaching out to take the basket from her.
"Go away." The old woman glared at him, clutched her basket tightly, and slammed her crutch on the ground. "A young lad like you should learn better. Trying to take advantage of my frailty and run off with my vegetables? Not happening. Pah!"
"..." Dumbelldore retreated to the side, his face flushed with embarrassment.
Behind him, Zhang Bao and Zhang Dashan, each carrying a sign advertising Chef’s Divine Food Stall, exchanged glances and shook their heads.
Zhang Bao took out a notepad and pen and quickly jotted down: "Helping an old lady with her vegetables: Failed."
"Young man, I can help you carry that firewood if you pay me one Copper Coin, okay?" Dumbelldore tried his luck again with a young man bringing firewood into the city, offering a polite smile.
"I’m only selling this whole load of firewood for ten Copper Coins, and you want one of them? Are you crazy?" the young man retorted, looking at Dumbelldore as if *he* were the one who was ill. He didn’t wait for a response before striding off swiftly with his load.
What kind of people are these! So stingy about a single Copper Coin! No wonder they’re stuck chopping wood for a living!
Dumbelldore stood frozen, fuming inwardly. Why is it so hard to do a good deed these days?
Zhang Bao continued to record: "Helping a woodcutter carry firewood: Failed."
By this time, a group of children had started following them, giggling and clearly enjoying the spectacle. They recognized Dumbelldore, who used to sing "You love me, I love you," and also recognized "Chef’s Divine Food Stall" on the signs Zhang Bao and Zhang Dashan were carrying. Thus, they naturally fell in behind them. In the innocent eyes of children, wherever Chef’s Divine Food Stall was, fun was sure to follow...
