Chapter 798 - 797 Let me go!
Owen Lewis showed little emotion as he listened to Annie Davidson’s words. That was simply how he always was.
"Uncle?"
Nia Mitchell looked perplexedly at Maxwell Peary, who had already come to her side. His face was very pale. Could something have happened?
"Uncle, what’s wrong?"
Turning to Nia Mitchell’s confused face, Maxwell Peary tried to muster his spirits. "Nothing. I’ll take you home first."
Maxwell Peary didn’t want Nia Mitchell to know about this; he could go to the hospital alone.
"What happened?"
Hearing Maxwell Peary’s words, Nia Mitchell tensed, her eyes instantly widening. "Did something happen at the hospital?"
Nia Mitchell looked worried. Her father had called just moments ago. At this thought, she reached for her phone to call her father again.
"It’s alright, nothing happened at the hospital." Maxwell Peary stopped her, his expression grave. "Don’t worry, it’s just a small matter. Go back to the villa and stay put. I’ll handle the rest."
Nia Mitchell bit her lip, looking into the CEO’s eyes. She longed to share Maxwell Peary’s burden, but... It seemed there was nothing she could do.
"Since nothing happened at the hospital, can’t I go there too?" She was still worried. However, since Maxwell Peary had spoken so firmly, she couldn’t insist.
Maxwell Peary was left with no excuse to make her leave. "Alright." In the end, he reluctantly agreed.
The car drove quickly, and in the blink of an eye, they arrived at First People’s Hospital.
「Hospital VIP Ward—」
Nia Mitchell and the CEO walked into the ward together. The atmosphere inside was oppressive. Her father wore a stern expression, and Aldy Mitchell was sitting up on the hospital bed, not resting.
"What happened?" The moment she entered the ward, she sensed something was amiss—seriously amiss.
"Nothing." Even now, Maxwell Peary answered her the same way, reaching out to take her small hand.
"Let go of her!" Although intimidated by the powerful aura emanating from Maxwell Peary, her father still spoke.
Nia Mitchell, taken aback, looked at her father in confusion. "Dad, what’s really going on?" Her father’s attitude towards Maxwell Peary today was strange; it was as if he no longer liked him.
Her father said directly, "Pack your things. We’re returning to D City. As for the medical expenses here, we’ll find a way to reimburse you."
The moment her father finished, Molly Harguez, standing to the side, became visibly uneasy. "Where would we get that much money to repay him?" Molly Harguez immediately approached, frowning at Maxwell Peary. Though she lacked confidence, she still hesitated for a moment before blurting out, "It’s fortunate enough that we’re not asking *you* for compensation! But you can’t just sleep with our Nia for free. How is she supposed to get married in the future?"
Nia Mitchell stood rooted to the spot, utterly dumbfounded. Could anyone tell her what on earth was happening? She was completely bewildered.
"Uncle?" Her family remained silent, so she could only turn her gaze to Maxwell Peary.
Meeting her gaze, Maxwell Peary stood there for a long moment, offering no reply.
"I’m not leaving." Despite not knowing what was happening, Nia Mitchell declared this. She reached out and gripped the CEO’s hand tightly.
Hearing her say this without demanding any explanation, Maxwell Peary’s heart clenched painfully.
