Evelyn Peary was all set to righteously denounce Maxwell Peary. She was always the one he lectured, and now, finally, she had a chance to counterattack.

Hearing Nia’s urgent voice, a flicker of indulgence crossed Maxwell’s eyes. He feigned indifference and poured himself a cup of tea.
He savored it slowly. The tea here had always suited his taste; it was the same flavor as before, unchanged.
"So what if you’re an adult? You’re only twenty. My brother is nine years older than you."
Maxwell’s face instantly darkened. He never used to care about age, but now, any mention of his age would make him bristle.
