Chapter 13: A Terrifying Deduction
Max didn't stop running even when he was far away from the Brown's group. Fortunately, leveling gave him newfound strength so he didn't have any problems with carrying Charlotte.
Of course, he enjoyed her soft body pressing against his, even though there were clothes between them. It still felt amazing.
Meanwhile, Charlotte was having different thoughts, as the scene where Max stood before her flashed through her mind. His broad back that seemed like a mountain to her.
It was blocking everything coming at her, protecting her from people who wanted to harm her. She knew they would have been defeated easily if the other group attacked, yet she felt safe behind that back.
It was funny, but it was the first time she actually felt like that. Due to her status, she was always at the front, facing every problem head-on.
She had even forgotten what it felt like being protected, granted she knew it was just fake safety. But it felt nice.
A smile played on her lips as she thought, 'How nice it would be if that moment lasts forever.'
Stelle saw her sister's expression and sighed. She gave a strange look to Max and thought, 'This man is dangerous.'
"Where are we going?" Stelle asked. "You already gave the map to them."
"It was useless to us," Max replied, as they slowed down. "I already know the route. Also, what we want is entirely different from what they're looking for. Just trust me!"
"Trust a coward?" Stelle scoffed, probing his reaction.
