Chapter 269: A Meeting
"This better be important," he grumbled, "I was not in the mood to babysit."
Han Yu bowed deeply. "Elder Hei, I am the disciple assigned to the reconnaissance mission near the Sulmbering Caldera. I returned early because of what I discovered."
Elder Hei paused. "You’re that brat? I remember the name. What happened?"
Han Yu withdrew a scroll case and several worn parchment bundles from his storage pouch, laying them on the table with care.
"These documents were recovered from a Mist Eye Sect outpost near the caldera. The base was attacked shortly before I arrived. I retrieved what I could."
Elder Hei’s brow twitched. He stepped forward, unrolling one scroll and skimming through the intricate characters. As he read, the lines on his forehead deepened.
Han Yu continued smoothly, "I was exploring the cave system at the end of the Broken Fang Ravine when tremors struck. The caverns collapsed, trapping me inside for weeks. I eventually found a way out through an opening in the caldera."
"That’s how you got those?" Elder Hei gestured vaguely to Han Yu’s burns.
"Yes. Spirit fire residue from the lava. It nearly roasted me. I barely made it out alive."
The elder nodded slightly, eyes still moving over the scrolls.
"I witnessed several Mist Eye Sect disciples and an elder fleeing their burning outpost. Judging from the scorch marks and damage, it had already been assaulted. That’s how I obtained these."
