Fallout, Second Life

Chapter 297 - 297

"You always have such a big heart, handsome~" Eve said as the group left through the front heading back to the APC in reference to the meds he just gave to the doctor for free.

"If Salvatore was here he would definitely be scolding me for what I just did. Giving away meds for free." Adam chuckled.

"I think it's what makes you special." Mira said warmly. "It's no different than Sarah would have done, I think it's admirable. The fact no one else would do that is proof that you have something others lack."

"Generosity?" Adam smiled at her.

"I do not understand however…" Deccanus said, now quietly since he didn't want his words overheard by the nearby warfighters on guard. "Why give medicine to people you hope will perish in the upcoming battle? Their weakness is our gain, no?" He questioned.

"I can give you a strategic answer." Adam replied. "Those acts of charity build up a good rapport and will help our solidarity when the battle actually comes. But the truth is I'm just a man who can't watch someone I have no ill will towards die in front of me without doing something. The same reason that I saved you." Adam said, turning to Deccanus now. This left Deccanus quiet as he seemed lost in thought.

As they arrived back at the APC it seemed the Warfighters were itching to get inside the APC however they were keeping themselves in moderate order despite their insatiable desire for whatever loot lay within. Rae's presence also helped deter them no doubt. But it seemed as though no one touched the APC, which was good, because Rae no doubt would have killed them if they tried and after he just finished making nice with the crazy man with the big sword inside.

"Good work Rae." Adam complimented.

"Rae is happy to have succeeded in the mission!" They said happily. Adam pat Rae on the brain jar and then opened the back up for everyone to get in, leaving shortly thereafter.

The trip back was much faster. After all he could go much faster than before since he wasn't following after two slowpokes. Since he also felt more comfortable roaming around War's territory, with the temporary alliance in effect, he actually stopped at a still standing grocer to loot it for its valuables. As expected it was almost entirely barren, however a few boxes of Abraxo cleaner, Blamco mac and cheese, and fancy lad snacks made the trip worth the few minutes it took to stop.

He was back at midway shortly thereafter, dropping everyone off save for Deccanus who tagged along and headed right for Jay.

"You got my goods in yet, Jay?" Adam asked with a smile as he walked in.

"I do!" Jay said with a wide smile as he saw Adam enter. "Sorry about how long it took! But the supplier is here now, I'll just go get him to bring the shells to ya!" Jay then left to go speak to whomever he had hired to grab the shells and then Adam headed back outside to wait for the shells to arrive. Around fifteen minutes later they did. It seemed to strain the two brahmin who were carrying the ammo in large boxes but they arrived at the APC without issue and unloaded it outside. Adam spent a few moments inspecting the ammo, making sure there were no obvious issues before giving Jay a big thumbs up.

Then, with Deccanus and Rae's help, who was once more on APC guarding duty, he loaded all the shells into the APC. Finally he had ammo again, and not an insignificant amount either. 10 105mm rounds and 40 78mm rounds was more than enough for his post-apocalyptic adventures. It may not have been much ammo back in the army, but now, when the world was so different, it was even better than having a fatman.

After he had finished loading up all his ammo he headed back inside and towards the mall once more, this time he went right to Olivia.

"Welcome back, I was wondering when you would come to pick up your orders." She grinned as she gestured to Adam and Deccanus' new armor, both of which were standing on display on mannequins.

Adam's Vault suit looked nearly identical but he could see a little extra internal padding added and, as he got close to touch it, he could feel the thickness of the fibers. It was well done, and while he couldn't say for certain how bullet proof it was without a test, which he was not in the mood for, he knew the strength of ballistic fibers, this was a massive upgrade.

On the other hand, Deccanus' armor was completely different. It retained many of the features indicative of a Legion armor set, such as the pleated skirt-like pants and the football gear styled armor on the chest. However, now it is much more advanced. The color scheme remained reds and browns with trims of silver, but where before it was due to it simply being the color of the fabric, now it was done by design. The legs were now padded and armored, with an aesthetically coordinated kneepad that blended well with the interwoven metal plate that was placed on the chest. The Pauldrons too were back, but now they had a rounded edge, covering more than just the tops of his shoulders and the helmet was a heavily modified soldier helmet, similar to Adam's with numerous changes to give it an aesthetic that matched the rest of the armor. While the helmet did not have any of the bells and whistles Adam's had, it actually had a few enhancements such as metal sheets placed over the ears and a collapsible face shield, made of ballistic glass. To put it succinctly it was truly incredible work.

"I can not believe you managed this in only a few days." Adam said as he marveled at Deccanus's new armor. Olivia chuckled.

"I am a professional after all~" She grinned. "But no, it was a ton of work, but I struck on inspiration and worked tirelessly. It was a ton of effort but I'm quite proud of it."

However neither his or Olivia's opinions mattered, what really mattered was Deccanus'. Adam turned to look at him and the expression on Deccanus' face was something he had not seen much of. Awe.

He had recognized the look on his face when he first brought Deccanus inside the Vault's library, but now he was giving the expression to his new armor. Clearly he was pleased.

"I… do not have words to describe how skilled you must be to create armor as such…" Deccanus said with pause. Olivia chuckled and smiled, happy to see her hard work paid off in Deccanus' reaction, and hopefully his money too.

"Well it was a custom job, and with a unique armor set to work off of. It certainly gave me some trouble at times, but I can say I am quite proud of what I came up with." She then chuckled. "This was a heavy custom job though. You gave me a blank check and I ran with it, so I do hope you can cover your debts."

"Do not fear." Deccanus said as he pulled out copious amounts of midway slips and bags of caps. "I can cover my expenses."

"Wonderful." Olivia smiled and then turned to Adam.

"I'll work out the price with the warrior here in a moment but yours, as agreed, comes to 750. However, before that, I got the item you wanted in stock." She smiled and then gestured for Adam to follow her into the backroom, which he did. Inside was exactly what he had hoped to source through her. A Power Armor frame.
