Chapter 275: Good Samaritan
Minji opened the front door and froze, as if she had just seen a ghost.
"Yohan... what are you doing here?"
"You haven’t been answering my calls, so I came to check if everything was okay," he said casually, hands tucked into his pockets.
"I’m fine," Minji forced a smile. "I’ve just been really busy these days."
"Has it been that stressful?"
"Yeah," she replied, then quickly added, "But you don’t have to come back to work. It’s nothing I can’t handle."
Yohan blinked, caught off guard by how distant she sounded—like she didn’t want him there at all.
"Professor... did I do something wrong?" he asked softly, as his hand reached for her face.
Minji shifted backwards, leaving his hand hanging "i-its nothing, really..."
He wanted to believe her, but her actions were too hard to ignore.
"Are you sure?" He pressed with concern
"Yes, I’m fine... my husband would soon be back..." she didn’t say anything else, just averting his gaze but Yohan understood the message.
"Okay... I guess I’ll see you around," he said then left.
There was nothing else he could do than to respect her wishes.
He left and went to meet up with Izumi. On his way there, he kept on wondering what he could have possibly done to upset Minji, but nothing came to mind.
Yohan went straight to the campus next, it was late but Izumi agreed to meet up. He sat and waited at the same bench they had used last time.
"Why did you call me out here so late?" She asked once she arrived.
"Hmm, you came alone?" He glanced behind her, checking to see.
"Yes, why?" she shifted suspicious of his intentions.
"Nothing..." he replied with a casual smile.
It was late so he was concerned Jenna would not let Izumi come on her own, but that didn’t seem to be a problem.
"Let’s make this quick, because I need to rush back," Izumi said, shifting her hair behind her ear.
"Okay," he replied, understanding her situation.
Then he pulled out his phone and dialed the number Emily had given him. It rang for a few seconds before someone answered.
"I’d like to speak with Freddie Michael if possible," he said casually.
"Hold on one moment," the female voice at the other end answered.
"Here," he handed Izumi the phone.
"Hello?" She said instantly.
Freddie recognized her voice almost immediately, "Nora?! Is that really you?"
"Yes my love, where are you? I’ve been so worried," she said, sounding like she was almost sobbing.
"I... I had to go away for a while... family business," his voice dipped low as he said. "But I’ll be back very soon, so just wait for me,"
He obviously wasn’t going to tell her the truth, if not he would have to explain why his mother sent him away.
’I wonder what kind of place it is... it’s probably one of those rich kid programs that parents send their children to when they get tired of taking care of them, like a boarding school’
Although Freddie might be too old for a boarding school, Yohan figured it wasn’t much different from that.
"Okay my love, I’ll be waiting for you," she said softly, her voice filled with concern and commitment.
Yohan rolled his eyes as he stood by the corner. It was like hearing two kids promise to get married when they grew up.
’Maybe something like that might actually be possible...’ he let out a small laugh.
Meanwhile the lovers were still going on with their call.
"Babe, how did you even manage to get this number?" Freddie wondered
"Well..." she considered how to say it, "I got it from one of your friends,"
"Oh," he replied with a bright tone, "which one?"
"Yo, Freddie, my man," Yohan grinned, snatching up the phone and walking to the side.
"..."
"Good to see that you’re doing okay, I was also starting to get a little bit worried,"
"Yohan?! Since when did you... How did you get to her?"
"She came to me for help, and as a good Samaritan I kindly offered my services, same with your mother actually," he said it without much emphasis but the way it sounded still came out weird.
"What do you mean by that?" Freddie clenched his fist.
"I mean you don’t have anything to worry about, just take your time with whatever you are doing. I can manage to hold things together while you’re gone,"
"Motherfucker..." Freddie muttered, his veins bulging as his jaw tightened.
Yohan chuckled at first, but it quickly spiraled into full-blown laughter, leaving him breathless.
"Sorry... that was just too perfect... ha" He let out a long, satisfied exhale, the kind that follows a really good laugh.
"You bastard, you think you fuck with me. What are you trying to say that you fucked my mother? You think I’ll believe something like that?"
"I didn’t say anything," Yohan said playfully.
"My mother would never come close to someone like you so you can keep dreaming, and if you even lay a single finger on Nora I’m going to fucking kill you,"
"Freddie why are you feeling so tough all of a sudden?" Yohan walked a little bit away from Izumi as his smile slowly disappeared from his face.
"is it because you feel you can hide behind this phone? Do you think I can’t reach you wherever you are?"
Just those words were enough to remind Freddie of the fear he felt when he saw what happened to Kai Lu, the emasculating feeling of being so powerless, still as fresh as the day it happened.
He swallowed hard, hesitating to say another word, unsure if it was a good idea.
"Can I at least tell her goodbye?" His voice was now more mellow.
"No," he ended the call and stuck the phone in his pocket.
Then he walked back to Izumi, "So..."
"Wait, where’s Freddie? We were still talking," she asked.
"He said he had to go but you shouldn’t have anything to worry about now that you have spoken to him right, it’s just left for you to fulfill your own part of the deal,"
"My own part...?"
