Chapter 137_1
"She has a pretty face and a good figure, but she’s just too shameless." James Horne sat up, casually putting on his shirt as he spoke with cold disdain.
Seeing Orlando Evans scrambling to get dressed, a mocking smile touched his lips. He sneered, "What’s the matter? Not in the mood to continue? Why get dressed now? We haven’t even slept together yet, have we? Your goal hasn’t been achieved, so why the hurry to end it?"
Orlando Evans was startled by James Horne’s sudden alertness and clarity. Her hands fumbled as she tried to dress, struggling to get her clothes on. Listening to James’s taunts, she grew even more flustered. She could only pull the blanket over herself, trying to regain some composure.
"Brother James..." Orlando Evans called out softly, a plea that would soften the heart of any man, but not James Horne.
He suddenly stood before her, leaning down slightly. His handsome, cold face drew close to Orlando Evans, so near that his breath fanned her cheek. His eyes grew colder, deeper, their gaze cutting into her as if he wanted to chop her into eighteen pieces.
"I’ve told you not to call me ’brother’!" James Horne’s voice was terrifyingly grim, like a chilling wind, cold enough to make one’s skin crawl. "Still want to continue?" he snorted.
"James Horne, don’t push your luck! It was a compliment that I chose to use you. Who do you think you are? Just an illegitimate son with nothing. What do you amount to?" Orlando Evans, stung by James Horne’s sarcasm, lost her temper and began to curse him.
James Horne straightened, crossing his arms. He looked down at Orlando Evans, who wore an expression of self-righteous indignation, as if she were doing *him* a favor. The cold smile on his lips widened. This woman is utterly shameless. I saw through her the moment I met her. Adele Horne was such a fool to consider her a friend, never realizing Orlando was just using her to get into the Horne family and become a socialite.
A socialite. Did she think it was so easy?
And being Glades Horne’s wife? Even harder.
If she wasn’t the woman Glades Horne loved, did she really think marrying into the Horne family would bring her happiness? He had heard every word she’d muttered to herself earlier. Knowing she desired him, how could he possibly have remained drunk? He had been faking it, waiting to catch her in the act. In this, he was quite similar to Glades; both brothers were true gentlemen, unmoved by such advances.
Orlando Evans thought that by becoming his girlfriend, she could freely come and go from the Horne estate again. After knowing him for eight years, did she still not understand his position in the Horne family? Without Glades Horne, he really would be nothing. And Glades was so formidable; how could a woman like her possibly think she could influence him or break up his marriage? If she truly had such power, Glades wouldn’t have set a wedding date with Ruby Bluen, only to be later dumped by Julia Bluen.
Orlando Evans was smart in some ways, yet foolish in others. When it came to Glades Horne, she became the stupidest woman alive.
