Chapter 47: If you can’t eat it, take it with you
Luke Gardiner was stunned for a few moments by her words: "No, you never intended to look for me."
"You’re a grown man, you can’t possibly get lost in there."
Disappointment, dejection, and a very uncomfortable feeling filled his heart as he inexplicably thought of those women.
He had little patience, and there were very few women who could stay by his side for long. Now, Florence Fuller’s feelings towards him seemed similar to those women he had coldly rejected before.
Because he didn’t care or like them, his indifferent attitude towards those women was like Florence’s attitude towards him.
"Come back to me," he said into the phone, struggling with his words, "Come back."
It seemed as if only Florence’s return could dispel this dull ache within him.
"I’m already halfway there, by the way. I had the store people send the clothes you bought to your parking spot. You’ll see them when you go to your car. You can go back by yourself. I have other things to do, goodbye."
The call was cut off as soon as the last word left her lips. Luke Gardiner stared at the phone, his eyes as deep as an abyss.
