Chapter 76: Dinner Invitation
Speaking of this, Laura lowered her head in guilt. She felt like she couldn’t even protect her daughter, and her own marriage was now in disarray.
"Mom, don’t blame yourself. This is their fault, not yours," Jessie reassured, gently patting Laura’s back.
The heartless ones were the Moore family members; she and Laura were the only victims.
"By the way, where is Uncle William? Has he been bothering you?" Jessie had been wanting to see Laura these past few days, but each time she wanted to, she would either be caught up in something urgent or Laura would be outside.
"No, he’s been staying with his parents these days," Laura replied, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
Ever since William went to stay with his parents, life had been quieter for her. However, the Krut family relatives loudly criticized her in their group chat, blaming her for not doing her duties as a wife. They kept saying that she should be cooking and doing household chores while her husband should be working outside.
Laura couldn’t understand where these twisted ideas came from. Her previous earnings from running a business were at least as much as William’s; oftentimes, she even earned more than he did.
Despite that, they insisted that she acknowledge her fault, claiming that the family depended entirely on William’s earnings. In other words, she would be nothing if she got a divorce. Not only that, they even claimed she wasn’t soft and considerate enough, implying that she should be the one to bear the brunt of the pressure William faced at work.
Fed up with their attitude, Laura lashed out at them in the group chat before blocking and deleting all of their numbers.
She would have tolerated their behavior before, but she was too tired to endure or associate herself with them anymore.
"You don’t need to worry about my issues. If those people dare to bother you, call the police immediately, okay? Don’t give them an easy time," Laura advised.
Jessie nodded. She wouldn’t stand back and let those people off.
