Chapter 24: Suspicion
William sneered, his words still dripping with sarcasm. "I thought you were some top executive from somewhere, but it turns out you’re just a small repairman."
"William Krut!" Laura stomped her foot in anger.
Jessie patted Laura on the back. "Mom, don’t be angry. You should head back. I have a lot to pack up here."
Laura glared at William with annoyance, then glanced at Kevin apologetically.
"It’s okay, Mom. I don’t mind." Kevin shrugged.
Only narrow-minded people liked to think their position made them superior.
As Laura left with William, he kept grumbling, seemingly upset by Kevin’s attitude today.
He had worked up the nerve to chat with Kevin, but Kevin even ignored him! What a waste of time.
Jessie sighed, closing the door before patting Kevin on the shoulder.
"Mr. Harper, don’t mind him; he’s just like that. Besides, what’s wrong with being a repairman? I think it’s a great job. If something breaks at home, it would be more expensive to hire someone to fix it, right?"
Kevin shook his head. "I don’t mind, but isn’t he still your stepfather? Wouldn’t you get in trouble since you spoke up for me?"
"What’s the big deal? He was in the wrong, so of course I will take your side." Jessie thought he might feel guilty and reassured him, "Don’t worry. I don’t feel anything for him, anyway. As long as he’s good to my mom, I don’t care much about other stuff."
