Chapter 1066: Leaving Again
"Alright, you’re grown up now, I won’t nag anymore. With your master there, I’m at ease."
"Mom, I’m fine. Besides, there are several people from our village with me. My master is wondering if they want to come back, and he also asked me to tell those with stable jobs."
"When you put it that way, they’ll definitely come back."
Chaoyang finished eating and put down his chopsticks. "Mom, I’m leaving. I expect to be back for the New Year."
Qu Xiaoli felt a deep sorrow, but since her child was about to leave, she couldn’t let him worry about home and leave with a heavy heart.
"Alright, don’t skimp on the food."
"I know."
Though Qu Xiaoli didn’t want her son to leave, the family still had other kids, including Xue’er, a girl. At night, someone had to be at home.
She grabbed Chaoyang’s hand. "Let me get you some money."
"Mom, I have money, don’t worry about me. I’ll be earning a salary there. Besides, they provide room and board. You don’t need to worry."
A mother worries when her son travels far away, but Qu Xiaoli tried not to show it.
She went back inside only after she couldn’t see her son anymore.
Her eldest son was in the army, rarely home, and now her second son was heading to the capital. Thankfully, there was no danger.
Chaoyang had arrived and half the loading was done, with two cars this time.
The two drivers were really struggling. They had just returned and were about to set off again?
Actually, on the road, Chaoyang helped with the driving. Even Guodong had learned, though he wasn’t familiar and drove slowly, he could still take turns.
But as married men, how could they not miss home or their wives?
Old Yang noticed their low spirits. "You can drive straight to your transport team, and there will be drivers there to change shifts with you."
This reassured both of them. Honestly, being stuck in a car for days was tough.
They really couldn’t compare to the younger guys who looked so refreshed after a meal and a bath.
Guodong was actually thinking of Li Xue, but didn’t want to wake her at this hour, so he left her a note.
This action made Old Yang laugh, but Guodong didn’t mind. What was embarrassing about missing one’s wife?
Wei Kaiyun paid Chaoyang the freight for the provincial city trip, asking him to give it to the transport team leader, and gave him an extra thousand.
"This is for you, buy what you like and don’t hold back." Chaoyang is an obedient and sensible child. Wei Kaiyun genuinely liked him, treating him as his own child.
"Master?"
"It’s fine, just take it."
Chaoyang held the thousand yuan, feeling a lump in his throat. In his heart, his master was like a father.
He promised himself to treat his master well for a lifetime.
Li Yunqiang approached, "Xiao Wei, can Xiang Dong come back with you this time?"
"Yes, if Xiang Dong comes back, Chaoyang will stay."
"And I told Chaoyang to inform those from the village who are in the capital that if they want to come back, there are openings for stable jobs here."
Li Yunqiang felt a bit embarrassed. He knew their family wanted Xiang Dong to return and work in the city. A stable job was something they never even dared to dream of before.
Someone called him over to count numbers, so he left in a hurry. Chaoyang followed him.
Wei Kaiyun called Guodong over and also gave him a thousand yuan. "Buy something you like."
"Uncle Wei, I have money."
"That’s yours. If you get a chance, go shop around the capital and bring back some good stuff."
All the stock in the warehouse was loaded. By 4 AM, the two cars set off simultaneously.
Now there was nothing left in the warehouse; even the raw materials were almost used up.
"Xiao Wei, are we blending tomorrow?"
"Yes. The raw materials should be arriving soon. We’ll keep working as we should."
Li Yungui was always obedient. Whatever Wei Kaiyun said, he would follow.
After returning home, Wei Kaiyun quickly washed up and after helping the kids with their needs, lay down and hugged his wife.
"Has he left?"
"Yes. I gave each of the two kids a thousand yuan."
"Haha, you’ve started treating Chaoyang as a son?"
Wei Kaiyun didn’t deny it. "Chaoyang is a good kid."
"Honey, once Shi Xian’s birthday is over, let’s set off. Old Yang has arranged for our family to go together, and the transport team has agreed. We just rent the vehicle, no driver needed."
"Great, let’s take a trip to the seaside.
But how do we get a letter of introduction?"
"Just say we’re going to pick up shell powder, fish powder or something."
"That works, it’s a good excuse."
"Let’s leave it to Village Chief Li to handle."
The next day, Li Xue woke up to find out that her second brother and Guodong had both come back the night before and then left again.
How could two people in love bear to be apart? But she understood he was attending to serious matters.
In the morning, Qu Xiaoli made water rice with sorghum, homemade fermented tofu, and some mixed wild greens.
Hu Mingjin was in no hurry to leave. Today he planned to capture all the interesting things he saw.
Additionally, he needed to photograph Wei Kaiyun at noon.
This was a requirement from the provincial authorities to be published in the national press, considering it a provincial advancement.
"Village Chief Li, where are you heading?"
"Mr. Hu, the eggs from the chicken farm are collected, and I need to do the count. In a while, comrades from the supply and marketing cooperative are coming to pick them up."
"Village Chief Li, can I take photos?"
"Sure, as long as you don’t go inside the chicken coop."
Wherever Li Yungui went, Hu Mingjin followed, planning to do a report on a day in the life of a grassroots leader.
By the end of the morning, Hu Mingjin realized how challenging it was to be a village leader.
There was never a moment to rest; while Li Yungui didn’t participate in labor, he had to make rounds in the field and attend to many matters.
"Village Chief Li, can I photograph Mr. Wei this afternoon?"
"I’m not sure, you need to ask Xiao Wei."
Wei Kaiyun didn’t refuse. His thought was to finish the photography quickly so Mr. Hu could leave soon.
The family had many plans waiting to be implemented.
They canned over twenty cases in the morning, and Hu Mingjin snapped a photo of Wei Kaiyun beside them. He also took one in front of the large corn shaker.
These were prepared for the province, but they had to wait for Guodong to return anyway. Old Yang and the others weren’t keen on going out.
Once the person in charge arrived to tally everything, they’d be set.
But Li Yungui was worried. After the photoshoot, "Xiao Wei, perhaps I should go to the transport team and accompany the delivery to the provincial city?"
Wei Kaiyun raised an eyebrow. "Village Chief Li, can you go?"
Li Yungui smiled wryly, "Since you and Old Yang don’t want to go, I have no choice."
"Alright, tomorrow get the transport team and use the same two drivers as before."
